Keith Williams, Cello
Keith earned his Bachelor’s in cello at the Juilliard School, became a certified Suzuki teacher in highschool, and obtained his Master’s Degree, studying and comparing the different ways that adults and children learn, from the University of Southern California. From his research, he saw a huge hole in how adults are taught to learn stringed instruments. Frustrated with the etude books and method books designed for children, and not finding any that accounted for the different ways that adults can process, Keith began writing his own method books and curriculum for his adult students, and saw a wild increase in the rate of their progress.
Since then, Keith’s adult students have gone on to join their local music communities with confidence, learn to balance a thriving hobby cello life with a professional career, win principal chairs in community orchestras, give their own recitals, play in local community events, jam with their family, and be fruitful, growing, happy cellists.
Keith uses his own experience as an international competition winner, soloist, orchestra principal, award-winning chamber musician and collaborator, certified Suzuki teacher, as well as his experience in various genres outside of classical music, to guide his student’s progress to achieve whatever goals they set out for themselves. He also uses his nation-wide connections to get his students connected to their local music communities, if they feel they don’t know where to start. Keith has always been passionate about passing his extensive knowledge and love of the cello on to his students, so they too can experience the gift of playing beautiful music with others, and has been specializing in teaching adult learners for over 6 years.
